This article explains how to create custom themes for color coding plans in SIMS. See the SIMS User Guide for other instructional SIMS articles.
Custom themes can be created for a number of parameters in the Facility Information Module in SIMS. Examples might include coloring only a selection of room types, such as offices or research labs, or other filters.
To create a custom theme, use the following steps:
Click the Themes icon at the top of the information pane, near the top-right of the browser window.
Click on the Manage Themes icon (some gears) at the bottom of the information pane.
Click on the New/Add icon (a page with an asterisk in the corner).
Name your theme, add any comments you'd like, then click Save. This can be changed later.
Double click on new theme name or select the name and click the Open icon.
Click the New/Add icon at the bottom of the Legend Items pane. Each legend item is a line in your legend, and thus should have different colors/patterns associated with them.
Name your legend item, select your desired pattern and color using the drop down arrows, then click Save.
Select your new legend item, then click the New/Add icon at the bottom of the Detail pane. Each detail restrict the rooms highlighted with the color specified in the legend item.
Select an attribute you’d like to theme on, the operator to filter for the desired result, and enter the value you’d like to filter for. The connector is how this detail will relate to other details in the same legend item. If you won't be adding any other detail lines to a legend item, make the connector OR. Click Save.
- (Optional) Repeat steps 5-9 to create as many legend items as needed and add as many details to each legend item as needed.
- (Optional) To remove details or legend items, select the line you'd like to remove then click the remove icon, a circled "x", at the bottom of the pane. When prompted, confirm that you would like to delete the selected line by clicking yes.
(Optional) To edit details or legend items, select the line you'd like to edit then click the edit icon, a pencil, at the bottom of the pane. Make changes then click save.
- Click Close on both pop up windows.
Select your newly created theme in the drop down selection of themes. See Viewing Building Floor Plans in SIMS for instruction on navigating to a floor plan in the Facility Information Module. See Printing Building Floor Plans with Themes for themed floor plan download options.
