This article explains how to create and manage labels in the Facility Information Module in SIMS. See the SIMS User Guide for other instructional SIMS articles.
Labels in SIMS displays selected room information overlayed on the floor plans at the room level. Some examples of viewable information includes occupant names, room square footage, and so on.
Following are instructions for utilizing labels in SIMS:
Managing Labels
Below are use and management instructions for labels that have already been defined, including how to turn labels on and off, move them, and select the label being displayed.
Label Menu
You can access the Label Menu by clicking on the Labels icon located in the Drawing Menu.
Turning Labels On or Off
To turn labels on or off in a drawing, open the Label Menu, then click Labels On to turn labels on or Labels Off to turn labels off. If you click Labels On and no labels load in the drawing, the floor may have no information pertaining to the selected label.
Moving Labels
To adjust the location of displayed labels, open the Label Menu then click on Edit Labels. Drag and drop labels to relocate as needed. Once you're done adjusting label locations, change your cursor back to pan or select, depending on your preference.
Select Displayed Label
To set or change the label being displayed, open the Label Menu, then click on Manage Labels. Select the desired label from the Space drop down then click Close. Please note, setting the label to be displayed will not turn labels on.
Default labels and what they display are listed below. If you need a different set of information shown, see Creating and Modifying Custom Labels.
Area - Displays room area in square feet.
Audit - Displays room number, function, room type, room sub-type, and capacity.
Default Space - Displays space ID and room area in square feet.
Occupant - Displays room occupants assigned by the department. For more info on occupant management in SIMS, see Managing Occupants in SIMS.
Room & Area - Displays room number and room area in square feet.
Creating and Modifying Custom Labels
Custom labels can be created for a number of parameters in the Facility Information Module in SIMS. Creating a custom labels allows users to choose information displayed in labels.
- Open the Label Menu.
Click on Manage Labels.
- Switch to the Label Styles tab.
Click on the New/Add icon (a page with an asterisk in the corner) at the bottom of the Labels pane. This is the step that creates a new label name that will show up as an option in the list of available labels.
For Type, use the drop-down arrow and select Space. Enter the desired name. A mask color and opacity can also be set if desired. Click Save.
Select the new Label then click on the New/Add icon (a page with an asterisk in the corner) at the bottom of the Lines pane. This is the step that adds details that will show up on the label. Multiple can be added.
Set the desired Line details.
- Select attribute using the drop down arrow.
- Select the desired font.
- (Optional) Text Color, Size, and Zoom can be changed.
- (Optional) For Sort Order, simply use number your lines in the order you'd like them to display. If no order is selected, label lines will appear in alphabetical order.
- (Optional) A Prefix and Suffix can be added.
- For Prefix and Suffix, simply enter the text you want including preceding and following spaces. For example, entering "Area - " in Prefix and " sqft" in Suffix. When the attribute selected is Area, it would result in "Area - 15 sqft" for a 15 square foot room.
- Click Save.
- (Optional) Repeat steps 5-6 to create as many label lines as needed.
- (Optional) To remove labels or label lines, select the line you'd like to remove then click the remove icon, a circled "x", at the bottom of the pane. When prompted, confirm that you would like to delete the selected line by clicking yes.
- (Optional) To edit labels or label lines, select the line you'd like to edit then click the edit icon, a pencil, at the bottom of the pane. Make changes then click save.
Click Close.
Set your newly created label as the displayed label.
