Expand Your FITS Knowledge This Fall with Free Virtual Training Opportunities

Whether you're new to Facilities Information and Technology Services (FITS) tools or looking to deepen your expertise, the next offering of free virtual training sessions this fall will help Ohio State faculty and staff make the most of the university's architecture, space data, and GIS resources.

This six-part training series covers a variety of systems and services used across the university, including the Space Information and Management System (SIMS), Archived Projects, 3D Campus Explorer, GIS Maps, and Autodesk BIM 360. Sessions are designed for both beginners and experienced users, providing practical knowledge that can be applied immediately in your work.

Feel free to take all or just some of the courses depending on your needs.

FITS System Overview Training

October 6, 2026 | 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Get an introduction to the teams, services and applications that make up FITS. Participants will learn how to access architectural resources, explore university space data and discover the GIS tools available to support planning, operations and decision-making.

SIMS and Archived Projects Training

October 8, 2026 | 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Learn the fundamentals of the Space Information and Management System (SIMS) and Archived Projects. This session provides an overview of university space data and demonstrates how to access historical construction drawings and project documentation.

GIS Maps Training

October 13, 2026 | 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

This hands-on session introduces users to Ohio State's GIS Maps platform. Learn how to search for assets and utilities, view floor plans, explore building information and customize map displays to support your work.

BIM 360 Training

October 15, 2026 | 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Explore Ohio State's collection of 3D building models through Autodesk BIM 360, which hosts Revit models for over 600 OSU buildings. Participants will learn how to navigate building models, locate relevant facility information and access data that supports planning, design and operational needs. No Revit license or experience with Revit is needed.

3D Campus Explorer Training

October 20, 2026 | 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Ohio State is moving to 3D! Join us to learn how this planning tool will allow you to view the campus like never before.  Load multiple buildings onto campus and experience the 3D models; turn on floors, slice through buildings, create fly-throughs, view shadows, elevation profiles or line of sight from selected points.

Advanced GIS and Hub Training

October 27, 2026 | 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Dive deeper into the university's GIS resources by exploring ArcGIS Online Hub. Participants will learn how to access maps, applications, datasets and other tools that provide greater insight into campus information. You’ll also get to peruse some of our popular focused apps and tour through our new 3D Campus Explorer.
