As part of an effort to bring the University's room type categorization data into alignment with national standards, we are updating the number codes of our room types and realigning a few of the sub-types. The update primarily affects the number/letter combination at the beginning of the data value, but the descriptors for the types and sub-types will received a few updates as well.
The numbering updates match the room type category with national standards.
Example:
5J-Office Service will become 3B-Office Service
There are a few updates that will change the descriptor as well, but these are largely to bring consistency in how these descriptors are used.
Example:
3D-Research Lab Service will become 2E-Research Laboratory Service
Some types and sub-types will be consolidated into a single value due lack of use or to provide clearer usage definitions of the space.
Example:
2H-Gymnasium > Racquetball, Squash, & Climbing will all become 5A-Gymnasium > Instructional/Recreational Sports

This update will be implemented in the SIMS production environment at the end of February 2022 and has already been implemented and reviewed in one of our test environments. If you have some specific buildings or spaces of concern, we will be happy to pull a sample of the data from the test environment for you to compare to the existing space data.
