Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Workflow- Replacing Web App Builder Apps

Topic:

Overview

This is a temporary KB to help with the migration of content to Experience Builder in 2025.

Asses the Content

Ask some questions of the purpose of the content.

  1. Is the application a viewer or an editor?
  2. What is the sharing level of this app? Private, Public, Organization, Groups?
  3. How many views does the content have? Is it popular?
  4. What tools does it use? Search, specific popups, other?

Review the Components

Ask questions about how the app runs.

  1. What map runs this app?
  2. What layers are in the map?
  3. What service runs this layer?

Document the Expected Work

Comment on the task in Smartsheet what you think will need done to replace the app.

We will review this in the 1-1 for a few of the apps.

Migrate the App

If the map needs cleaned up:

  1. Add new layers to the map that use appropriate services and mimic the filtering needed
  2. Mimic the symbology
  3. Mimic the pop-ups
  4. Let Treavon know so you can review the map before saving and before removing the older layers
  5. Remove the older layers
  6. Review basemap selection if needed
  7. Add the redline service and turn off the visibility of the layer.
  8. Save the map

If the map is done:

  1. On one monitor have the app open and on another have a fresh copy of the experience builder template
  2. Adjust the description in the help splash screen
  3. Adjust the title in the header
  4. Add the map to the map widget
  5. Remove widgets that provide no value for this app
    1. This may be the filter widget or some other widgets. Consider what is removed carefully with the apps use case.
  6. Configure the widgets that remain

See table for details on each widget
