How-To Guide: Historic Map

This guide provides descriptions of every tool and how to use the Historic Map. The Historic Map allows users to scan through the years of campus data collected. The key feature of this map is the prominent slider at the bottom center of the screen. This slider changes the data displayed in the map. This is not a holistic dataset and improvements or additional information are welcome.


Tools

The header

  • Home Button- Takes you to the university home page
  • Search- Search the content of the app. If the current year chosen in the "slider tool" contains the record also select it on the map.  
  • Legend- Show the symbol styling reference of the map.
  • More Info- Expands a pane of three tools
    • Refresh Map- relaunches the page
    • Table View- Expands a new pane with the data in a tabular format.
      • Shift + Space or a mouse click in a data cell will select the record on the map.
      • The table shows data for the current year found in the "slider tool".
    • More Info Pane- A splash screen with additional content about this map and more.
      • Print Maps- The current versions of the campus maps available to the public in multiple formats.
      • FITS Website- Discover the work FITS does and the teams within.
      • Help Articles- A link to this KB and the collection of other KBs
      • Feedback-  A form to share improvements, comments, suggestions, etc. 

The Map

  • Home- Return to the default extent of the map. Layer visibility and filtering is unchanged by this.
  • Zoom In/Out- Scale the content of the map.
  • Slider Tool- Filter the content of the map. The slider goes from year to year changing the imagery and data.
