This guide provides instruction on how to use ESRI's Field Maps mobile application. This tool is used to edit GIS databases while on the go. Some data is best verified in the field. Some uses include: street furniture, tree, amenity point, and many other collection efforts.
Setup
- Install the Field Maps application from your preferred App Store.
- Upon launching the application, you are greeted with a log in page, enter the following information.
- Press the sign in with ArcGIS Online button.
- Choose “Your ArcGIS enterprise URL”, type “osugis” into the text box, remember URL check box as well.
- This guide will not function for users in another ArcGIS Organization unless you adjust the "enterprise URL" to match your organizational access. If you are not sure about your access please contact gismaps@osu.edu
- You should now see the OSU login portal, enter your current OSU credentials.
Preparing to collect data
- Once you have logged in, a few map items will be displayed. If you do not see your preferred map, use search to find it.
- This is not inclusive of all available maps and new custom maps or features can be requested.
- After you have selected a map to collect data in, you will be able to: add new information to the dataset, edit existing information, and deleted existing information.
Collecting Data
- Click the blue plus button to begin an edit session.
- By default, the point will snap to your location, but you can drag the cursor around to position it more accurately, press add point.
- Fill in the necessary attributes, take a photo with the in-app button to attach it to the point automatically.
- Click submit
Editing Existing Data:
- Click the data point you see in the app that needs edited.
- The attribute panel will open to show you more information. (Image 1)
- Click edit and input new information.
- Most data is not deleted and is instead edited. (ie. Tree Status set to removed, business set to permanently closed, etc.)
