Basic Navigation in SIMS

Topic:

This article explains some basic navigational items in SIMS.  These elements are referred to and used in multiple articles about and modules within SIMS, so it is useful to be familiar with their names and appearance.  See the SIMS User Guide for other instructional SIMS articles.

Following are 4 navigational items to be aware of when navigating SIMS:

  1. Applications Menu
  2. Current Module Display
  3. Dialog Window
  4. Icons

1.  Applications Menu (a.k.a. the Hamburger Menu)

The Applications/Hamburger Menu icon in the upper left portion of the window allows users to switch between different modules.

Clicking on the menu icon (

Hamburger Menu icon

) will display a list of available modules. Following are the modules a typical user will see and be able to utilize:

  1. Archived Projects – Contains archived project documents as well as basic floor plans known as “Owner Plans”.
  2. Facility Information – Contains interactive floor plans with space data and various room information display options such as color coding and labels.
  3.  Reporting – Contains pre-formatted self-service PDF and Excel reports.
  4. Space – Contains tabular space data at the Campus, Building, Floor, Space/Room, and Occupant levels.

Clicking on a module name will open that module in your current window. Clicking on a module icon will open the module in a new tab. Changing modules will refresh any applied filters. For example, if you need additional information that isn't available in your current view or with your current filters but don't want to lose your filter work, you can click on the icon to open a new tab with that module opened.

3.  Dialog Window

A dialog window or dialog box pop up window contains more detailed information about the opened record.  Dialog windows can typically be opened by double clicking on a record or clicking the open icon.  Tabs within dialog windows contain information categorized as belonging to that tab. For example, documents attached to a building or space record will be under the documents tab.
