This article discusses planned adjustments to the way we track occupant cost centers in SIMS.
Starting in Fall 2026, occupant cost center tracking in SIMS will look the same as cost center tracking currently does. This change will allow for more than three occupant cost centers to be listed for a space (the current format allows up to three occupant cost centers only).
The current occupant cost center fields (listed below) will be available temporarily after the change before being retired sometime after Spring 2027:
- Occupant CC 1
- Occupant CC 1 Pct Allocated
- Occupant CC 2
- Occupant CC 2 Pct Allocated
- Occupant CC 3
- Occupant CC 3 Pct Allocated
The new format will list occupant cost center allocations in a tab in space dialog window, next to where the Allocation tab currently is. Users will be able to view occupant cost centers by opening a space dialog window, clicking on the Occupant CC tab, and reviewing the list of occupant cost centers, along with their Allocation percentages, Start Date, and End Date (if applicable). Occupant cost centers will also be available to view in the space grid, like cost centers currently are.
Additionally, the new occupant cost center structure will allow SIMS users to use the occupant cost center theme while looking at floor plans in the Facility Information module in the same way that the cost center theme is currently available. With the change, all occupant cost centers assigned to a space will be viewable via theme color coding at the same time, a significant improvement to the current Occupant CC 1, CC 2, and CC 3 theme options.
After this change goes into effect, the old occupant cost center fields (listed above) will still be available for a time. These fields will be populated with the three highest-allocated occupant cost centers for the space: the Occupant CC 1 field will show the occupant cost center with the highest percentage of the space, Occupant CC 2 will show the occupant cost center with the second highest percentage, and Occupant CC 3 will show the occupant cost center with the third highest percentage. These fields will eventually be retired.
